Wakeboarding, Waterskiing & Knee Boarding
Choose any of these options and you’ll find yourself on Lake Raystown (26 miles long!), the largest lake within Pennsylvania. It often feels like “we have the lake all to ourselves” because Raystown is on public land with no cabins and very little commercial development.
All three of these water sports are challenging,
adrenaline-filled activities that will leave you with a sense of accomplishment and exhilaration. Whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned veteran, our experienced, certified instructors will be there to help you every step of the way. We often say that “every day on the boat is a good day” because of Lake Raystown’s pristine beauty. The wakeboarding, waterskiing & knee boarding activity is offered most morning and afternoon sessions. We also offer Wakeboarding Overnights each session at SMA!
For those of you that are serious about Wakeboarding and Waterskiing and want priority instruction to focus on skill development, we have the Wake Masters Program. Click Here to learn more about our Wakemasters Program.
Sailing

Our two sunfish sailboats are great for sailing around Lake Raystown. Our sailing instructors will help you every step of the way including:
- teaching you to rig the sailboat
- understanding the concepts of sailing
- read the wind and the water
- sailing safety
- general navigation skills.
Being able to harness the power of the wind is an incredible and empowering experience. Raystown Lake is located in the mountains which makes it a terrific spot for beginner through intermediate sailing. Come and join us as we let the wind fill our sails and we glide across the water.
Whitewater Rafting
Once each session we launch our whole camp onto the Class III rapids of the Lower Youghiogheny River (often referred to as “The Yock”) for a seven mile white water rollercoaster ride. Nothing really compares to the exhilaration of entering the “white water world” and powering through rapids. Helmets and life jackets are worn by everyone for safety, and professional guides ensure a safe and exciting voyage. “The Yock” is a world class intermediate white water river perfect for young teens. After every stretch of white water there is a calm stretch where we can re-group and get prepped for the next rapid. Our guides provide us with a hearty lunch half way down the river and some days they even let us surf “Swimmers Rapids” which is a small, constant wave in the river.
White water rafting the Lower Youghiogheny River is one of the activities we do as an entire camp towards the end of each session. It is a highlight of camp that only reconfirms the bonds everyone has made with each other. As one of the most exciting activities we do at camp, whitewater rafting is guaranteed to increase your heart rate!
Canoeing
Canoeing is a favorite camp activity on a hot summer day at SMA. Our location in central Pennsylvania provides us with a number of rivers great for canoeing including the Little Juniata, the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata, the Raystown Branch of the Juniata and the mighty Juniata River. Sometimes we take a slow, playful trip along a winding river and other times it’s a faster trip which lets you command your craft through small rapids. Our experienced staff will instruct you on:
- “Reading” the river
- General Stokes (Sweep, Draw, Correction, Rudder, etc.)
- Ferrying across the river
- River Safety & Communication
- Righting a canoe if you capsize
- River Song & Local Lore
Canoe trips at SMA are always full of hearty laughter and good times as we navigate our way down the river. We also offer van supported canoeing overnights, another highlight of camp!
Windsurfing
Our windsurfing program also takes place on Lake Raystown. We have experienced windsurfing instructors and the right size sails and boards for both beginning and experienced windsurfers. Windsurfing differs from sailing in that you become part of the sail boat, thus bringing you closer to the true sailing experience. It’s hard to describe the feeling when the wind fills your sail and you lean back counter balancing the sail with the wind in your face… it really is incredible. So come join us in the SMA Windsurfing program and try your hand at one of the most exciting sports on the water!
Fishing
We offer fishing on many of the local rivers and lakes in central PA. We provide the fishing rods and the bait while you provide the courage to put the worm on the hook and the patience it takes to “catch the big one.” The rivers we fish are all tributaries of the Juniata River, which flows into the Susquehanna River and is part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. We fish for trout, bass and
catfish at Stone Mountain Adventures. A peaceful morning or an afternoon fishing activity while cooling your feet in the fresh water of a pristine river or mountain lake can be the perfect respite from other adventure activities at camp.
